Introducing the Fall DIGITAL FORE and ICJR Meetings
(Top to bottom): Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education, International Congress for Joint Reconstruction and Orthopedics This Week Virtual Conventions

In line with their mission of providing high-quality education to the orthopedic community, the Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education (FORE) and the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction (ICJR) have added a virtual option for attending their continuing medical education (CME) courses this year through an agreement with OTW Virtual Conventions.

“We recognize that many orthopaedic healthcare professionals are unable to travel to our meetings this year due to institutional travel restrictions or a busy clinical schedule,” said Jason Heath, FORE’s Vice President of Operations. “One advantage of going virtual is that surgeons and other orthopaedic professionals can still attend important educational meetings without having to leave their practices at this critical time.”

FORE and ICJR selected OTW Virtual Conventions because its next-generation web platform employs realistic, 3D renderings to deliver an impactful, immersive educational experience.

This platform offers attendees a highly interactive lecture hall, with advanced dialogue and Q&A functions to help them connect virtually with course faculty. In the exhibit hall, attendees can explore virtual booths and participate in tech talks and workshops, learning more about the latest innovations in technology for orthopedics—just as they would at a live, in-person meeting.

Importantly, the OTW Virtual Conventions educational platform makes participation more affordable and convenient for orthopedic healthcare professionals during this time of budget reductions and travel restrictions.

“We estimate that for every in-person attendee, 10 to 20 other orthopaedic healthcare professionals would like to participate but cannot due to budget or other constraints,” said Michelle Paradise, Director of CME for FORE and ICJR.”

“The OTW Virtual Conventions platform not only gives more orthopaedic professionals the opportunity to attend our meetings, but it also allows them to earn the same number of CME credits as they would through in-person participation.”

  • 9th Annual Direct Anterior Approach Hip Course, October 8-10
  • 9th Annual Shoulder Course, October 15-17
  • 6th Annual Frontiers in Upper Extremity Surgery, November 6-7
  • 18th Annual Current Solutions in Orthopaedic Trauma, November 12-14

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
