Big news for the sports medicine community: the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) has unanimously selected Corey J. Parker, M.P.A., as its next Chief Executive Officer — and yes, this one comes with strong credentials and serious momentum.
After a thoughtful national search supported by Tuft & Associates, the Board landed on a leader who knows healthcare, understands surgical specialties, and speaks fluent “complex medical society operations.”
Neurology’s Loss Is Sports Medicine’s Gain
Corey Parker will be leaving his role of Chief Operating Officer of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons where he oversees a staff of 65 professionals and a $30M+ operation to join the, honestly, much more fun AOSSM.
Parker, who clearly knows how to run a large, complex surgical organization without dropping the ball, will find, we expect, that AOSSM is qualitative step up.
Prior to attending to Neurology’s needs, he served as Executive Director of Surgical Accreditation at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, where he led accreditation efforts for orthopedic surgery and other surgical specialties nationwide.
So yes — he understands residency standards, fellowship training, milestones, and the realities of developing the next generation of surgeons.
The Energizer Bunny Factor
AOSSM President Eric McCarty, M.D., highlighted Parker’s “high energy, intellectual curiosity, and collaborative leadership style.”
For a field that’s constantly evolving — biologics, return-to-play protocols, value-based care, data registries, tech integration — that kind of energy matters.
Expect continued focus on:
- Innovative CME that respects your time
- Research that actually impacts what you do in the OR
- Advocacy that protects your practice
- Stronger engagement for residents, fellows, and early-career surgeons
- Operational efficiency that keeps AOSSM nimble
A Thoughtful Transition
Parker officially joins AOSSM on April 6, 2026, succeeding Greg Dummer, who has served as CEO since 2016. Dummer will remain through the 2026 Annual Meeting to ensure a smooth handoff — the professional equivalent of a well-executed relay exchange.
AOSSM’s New GM, err, CEO
Sports medicine doesn’t stand still. Neither does AOSSM.
With deep experience in national surgical societies, accreditation, and healthcare operations, Parker steps in at a moment when orthopedic surgeons need strong advocacy, smart strategy, and forward-thinking leadership.
New season. New CEO. Same mission — advancing the science and practice of orthopedic sports medicine, and making sure you have what you need to keep athletes (and weekend warriors) moving.
Stay tuned.
