FDA-cleared system expands United’s acetabular offering with dual mobility, VIT-E poly, and design features intended to support efficient cup and liner assembly
United Orthopedic Expands U.S. Hip Portfolio With New Momentum Acetabular Cup System

IRVINE, CA, UNITED STATES, November 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- United Orthopedic Corporation (United) today announced the expansion of its U.S. hip portfolio with the Momentum Acetabular Cup and Liner System. The newly FDA-cleared system broadens United’s acetabular offering with additional bearing options and design features intended to provide surgeons with greater procedural flexibility during total hip arthroplasty (THA).
The Momentum system incorporates dual mobility and vitamin E polyethylene liner options, offered in United's EXPE and XPE material. Its flush cup-and-liner configuration is designed to support a streamlined construct while expanding the range of solutions available within United's hip portfolio.
"Our goal was to develop a system that combines versatility with design features that support an intuitive surgical workflow.” Edwin Su, MD.
Additional design features include:
An alignment peg featuring a liner post that serves as an insertion reference to help facilitate precise liner positioning, alignment, and assembly.
A bossed apical dome with a square-profile tip designed to maintain secure impactor engagement and minimize the risk of toggling motion and cup dislodgement during impaction.
An 18-degree taper interface designed to provide a wider lead-in entry, helping facilitate liner alignment and insertion compared with a conventional 10-degree taper angle.
“The expansion of our hip portfolio represents another important step in United’s continued growth in the U.S.,” said Calvin Lin, CEO of United. “Momentum reflects our commitment to listening to and collaborating with surgeons and developing thoughtful solutions that respond to their needs in the O.R.”
“Our goal was to develop a system that combines versatility with design features that support an intuitive surgical workflow,” said Edwin Su, MD, orthopedic surgeon and member of the Momentum design team. “From the dual mobility and vitamin E polyethylene options to the alignment and impaction features, each element was thoughtfully considered to help surgeons confidently position and assemble the construct.” To learn more about United products, visit www.unitedorthopedic.com.

Discussion
This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?
Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.
We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
