IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- OrthAlign, Inc., the leader in handheld orthopedic technology, today announced the full commercial launch of Lantern® ASC for total hip and total knee arthroplasty, giving hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) a single platform that brings enabling technology to their entire joint replacement program. The announcement coincides with the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Annual Meeting, where orthopedic leaders gather to discuss the latest advancements in joint replacement.

"Four months ago, we earned FDA clearance for our knee platform. Today, Lantern ASC covers the two highest-volume procedures in orthopedics on one platform," said Eric Timko, Chief Executive Officer of OrthAlign. "That means we can serve the entire joint replacement market with a single system: hips and knees, in any center, regardless of size, volume or implant choice. Lantern ASC was designed around the realities of today's surgical environment, making it easier for more centers to bring enabling technology into every case."

"Lantern ASC gives me the accuracy and real-time feedback I want without changing the way I operate," said Mark Farmer, MD, orthopedic surgeon at Riverwalk Surgery Center in Florida. "It's intuitive, integrates seamlessly into my surgical workflow, and provides the confidence of advanced technology without the complexity of a robotic system."

"In an ASC, every minute matters. We need technology that supports our surgeons without slowing down the operating room," said Madhish Patel, DO, orthopedic surgeon at Riverwalk Surgery Center. "Lantern ASC delivers the information we need in a simple, efficient platform that fits the economics and pace of outpatient joint replacement."

Lantern ASC pairs a reusable navigation unit with a procedural Smart Pack Kit to deliver real-time navigation for total hip, total knee, partial knee and gap balancing in primary and revision cases. With its minimal footprint, rapid setup and no capital equipment requirement, Lantern ASC is designed to bring advanced surgical technology into the ASC without disrupting established workflows or adding unnecessary costs.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
