CASTEL SAN PIETRO, Switzerland, November 02, 2026 – Medacta Group SA ("Medacta," SIX: MOVE) today announces the full commercial release of the Mfinity™ Femoral System in the United States. Designed to accommodate diverse patient anatomies and MIS approaches, Mfinity combines a comprehensive range of stem options with streamlined instrumentation to promote an efficient and reproducible surgical workflow in total hip replacement. Its U.S. launch follows more than one year of successful limited market use in selected centers of excellence. Outside the U.S., the first surgical cases were performed in Japan in September 2026, and clinical studies supporting future registrations are underway in Australia and Europe.

“The main objective when designing Mfinity was flexibility without complexity. The system offers surgeons multiple stem options, including collared, non-collared, and long versions, with proportional sizing and offset for the patient’s anatomy, so they can choose the design that best matches their patient and surgical needs,” said James Dowd, MD, Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA.

The Mfinity Femoral System features a metaphyseal-filling stem available in collared and collarless versions, with progressive neck length and collar variation across stem sizes to optimize proper restoration of hip biomechanics. Mfinity™ L completes the system, offering a longer ream-and-broach cementless option optimized for surgeons who prefer this design. A cemented version is expected to be available in 2027, subject to regulatory clearance in the relevant markets.

Drawing on Medacta’s MyBody[1] database of thousands of computed tomography (CT) scans, the stem was fine-tuned to fit a wide spectrum of femurs, while its reduced distal geometry makes it particularly suitable for narrow femoral anatomies, including Dorr Type A. Its design also facilitates implantation in minimally invasive approaches, and Medacta’s MectaGrip proximal coating aims to enhance both initial and long-term stability.

To enhance OR efficiency, the Mfinity instrumentation allows surgeons to use cementless and cemented stems with a single tray, enabling a seamless intraoperative conversion between the two fixation options without opening an additional instrument set. Modular instruments reduce the tray footprint, making the system well-suited to ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs).

Mfinity can be used with the MyHip® digital suite and with NextAR™ Hip, part of the MySolutions™ Personalized Ecosystem, which integrates 3D preoperative planning with intraoperative guidance and verification tools. Through the M.O.R.E. Institute, Medacta supports the adoption of Mfinity with structured training and hands-on courses, drawing on the experience gathered during the limited market release. Medacta is committed to advancing solutions in hip replacement that address the individual needs of both surgeons and patients, so that more patients may benefit from personalized surgical care and return to an improved quality of life.

The Mfinity Femoral System will be presented at the 2026 American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Annual Meeting, November 5–8, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, USA, where the system and Medacta’s full hip portfolio will be on display at Booth #826.

Why This Matters

Two Perspectives

MBA Lens: Economic and industry impact

Medacta has fully launched its Mfinity Femoral System in the U.S., strategically targeting diverse patient anatomies and minimally invasive approaches. This launch follows over a year of successful limited market use, aiming to enhance surgical efficiency and reproducibility in total hip replacement. The system's integration with digital planning tools and support for ambulatory surgery centers positions Medacta to strengthen its market presence and drive adoption.

  • The system's versatile design, including collared, non-collared, and long stem options, caters to varied patient needs and surgeon preferences.
  • Streamlined instrumentation, allowing a single tray for cementless and cemented options, improves OR efficiency and suitability for ASCs.

PhD Lens: Clinical and outcomes impact

The Mfinity Femoral System features a metaphyseal-filling stem, available in collared and collarless versions, with proportional sizing and progressive neck length to optimize hip biomechanics. Its design, informed by the MyBody CT scan database, accommodates diverse anatomies, including narrow femurs (Dorr Type A), and facilitates minimally invasive implantation. MectaGrip proximal coating aims to enhance initial and long-term stability.

  • Clinical use includes over a year of limited market experience in the U.S. and initial cases in Japan, with studies underway in Australia and Europe.
  • The system offers both cementless and a future cemented option, designed for flexibility and efficient intraoperative conversion.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
