Matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation is commonly described as a two-stage procedure. First, the surgeon arthroscopically evaluates the knee, treats associated pathology, and harvests a cartilage biopsy. The patient then returns for implantation of the expanded autologous chondrocytes.
