For years, the mantra in acute traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) has been simple: keep the mean arterial pressure (MAP) at 85-90 mmHg. The logic seems sound. Injured spinal cords need perfusion. More blood pressure should mean more blood flow, and more blood flow should mean better neurological recovery.
