Coastal Orthopedics Expands Team with New Orthopedic Surgeon

BRADENTON, Fla. — Coastal Orthopedics, home to a team of musculoskeletal physicians specializing in joint replacement, hand and wrist, foot and ankle, shoulder and elbow, sports medicine, spine care, diagnostic imaging and physical therapy, recently expanded its highly skilled staff of orthopedic specialists with the addition of Dr. Richard Puzzitiello.

Dr. Puzzitiello specializes in surgical treatment of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee. He has a distinct passion for joint preservation procedures, including advanced cartilage restoration and hip arthroscopy, for treating conditions like labral tears and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). Utilizing cutting-edge robotic and virtual navigation technologies for shoulder and knee procedures, Dr. Puzzitiello offers precision, accuracy and improved outcomes.

Dr. Puzzitiello completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. He then pursued a fellowship in sports medicine surgery at the University of Utah.

An accomplished researcher, Dr. Puzzitiello has authored more than 100 scientific publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed orthopedic journals. His work has been presented at national and international conferences, and he has received multiple awards for his contributions to the field.

He currently serves as a team physician for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Bradenton Marauders.

“We are incredibly pleased to welcome an accomplished orthopedic specialist like Dr. Puzzitiello to our practice,” said Paige LeMay, chief executive officer of Coastal Orthopedics. “As the only physician on the west coast of Florida performing hip arthroscopies, he brings a rare and valuable expertise to our team. With extensive experience treating elite athletes, he delivers the same level of compassionate, personalized care to all patients, and I am confident he will be an outstanding addition to Coastal Orthopedics.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
