A new study published on July 1, 2025, in the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons suggests that preoperative aspiration of the knee following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture may not reduce the overall incidence of revision surgery or arthrofibrosis—but it could offer an important clinical benefit by significantly delaying the onset of scar tissue formation.
