RevSpring, Inc., a Nashville, Tennessee-based healthcare engagement and payment solutions company, has announced a partnership with Breg, Inc., an orthopedic medical equipment company based in Carlsbad, California.

The partnership will expand access to a patient estimation solution to more than 2,500 orthopedic clinics based in the United States. The orthopedic clinics are existing Breg partners.

Thanks to the partnership RevSpring’s True Access™ is now integrated with Breg’s Vision® Workflow Management software platform. RevSpring’s True Access is a patient estimation solution.

According RevSpring, True Access focuses on “four main areas of pre-registration including:

  1. coverage determination and verification,
  2. claim denial prevention,
  3. patient financial readiness and increased collections, and
  4. tools, workflows and reporting for staff.”

The benefits RevSpring and Breg hope to achieve include “easy-to-pay copay collections at the point-of-service” and time savings for both patients and staff.

Breg Chief Business Management and Innovation Officer Steve Ingel explained, “We chose RevSpring as our partner based on their industry knowledge and easy-to-use interface that provides a fantastic user experience thanks to the support of eligibility verification, address verification, medical necessity and prior authorization processes.”

Ingel continued, “We also highly value the knowledge, experience and commitment of the RevSpring implementation team, which is working closely with our team to facilitate integration with Breg’s Vision Workflow Management software.”

Breg’s Vision Workflow Management software is used to manage patient workflow. Per its website, it “automates and optimizes” in-house bracing and supplies program. The software has mobile capabilities and electronic medical/health records integrations.

RevSpring CTO and VP of Patient Engagement Howard Bright commented, “Partnering with Breg offers exciting new opportunities for RevSpring in the growing orthopedic market, while allowing us to join Breg in offering a modern patient experience that gives patients more insight into their healthcare financial obligations.”

Bright continued, “We are delighted to collaborate with a company that shares our commitment to transparent patient communication and smart technology solutions, which also reduce administrative hassles while increasing patient payments.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
