Orthofix Medical Inc. veteran Jason Shallenberger has been appointed president of the Orthofix Bone Growth Therapies business.

Orthofix is a global spine and orthopedics company based in Lewisville, Texas. The appointment coincides with the realignment of the Orthofix Spine business. The Orthofix Bone Growth Therapies business was previously managed under the leadership of the Spine business unit. Now each unit—Bone Growth Therapies and Spine—will be led by separate presidents.

Shallenberger has nearly 20 years of experience with Orthofix. Prior to his appointment as president, he served as vice president of U.S. Sales And Marketing for the Orthofix Bone Growth Therapies business.

Orthofix President and Chief Executive Officer Massimo Calafiore commented, “Jason has led sales and marketing for this successful franchise for a number of years.”

Calafiore continued, “Under his guidance, the sales team has produced quarter-after-quarter of double-digit growth in 2023. I am confident he will do an amazing job as President and continue to contribute greatly to the success of Orthofix.”

Shallenberger has been with Orthofix since 2005. He began his career as a territory manager and after a year was promoted to district sales manager. In 2008, he was promoted to regional sales director and three years later was promoted to vice president of U.S. Sales and Marketing. Shallenberger served in that role for a decade where he, per the press release, “led his team to 30 consecutive quarters of year-over-year growth, outpacing annual market growth rates, and was given additional responsibilities for medical education in 2023.”

Shallenberger stated, “Since 1986, Orthofix Bone Growth Therapy has helped promote the natural-bone healing process in patients.”

Shallenberger continued, “I am honored to continue my career with the company in this new role as we continue to innovate and bring new technologies to the market.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
