James Abraham and Damien Sibilla have joined the executive leadership team of Tyber Medical LLC, an orthopedic medical device company.

Abraham joins Tyber Medical in a newly created chief commercial officer role. Abraham has over 30 years of experience in the orthopedic device industry. At Tyber Medical he will focus on extending the reach of Tyber Medical’s “private-label medical devices into surgical suites globally.”

OTW spoke with Abraham about what he was most looking forward to in his new role. Abraham told OTW, “I am most looking forward to working within Tyber Medical’s dedicated, growth-driven, fun culture and building a commercial team that furthers the development of our products, markets and OEM [original equipment manufacturer] channels globally.”

Abraham joins Tyber Medical from Annovus Therapeutics Inc. and Kalitec Medical LLC where he served as president and managing member of the Board of Directors. He has worked at many other notable companies including: Nexxt Spine, LLC; NuVasive, Inc.; and Stryker Corporation. At NuVasive he served as managing director and vice president of the Australia and New Zealand division. At Stryker he was a general manager and area vice president of the orthopedic and trauma division.

Tyber Medical CEO Jeff Tyber said, “Creating the chief commercial officer role is a bold new step for us. We are thrilled to have Jim [Abraham] on board to take our product commercialization to the next level.”

Tyber continued, “Jim’s strong leadership and extensive career in executive commercial positions, as well as overseeing global operations, business and product development and mergers and acquisitions, makes him the ideal talent to work with our high-impact team and help us continue to exceed our growth targets.”

Sibilla joins Tyber Medical as chief financial officer (CFO). He has over 20 years of financial management experience with 10 years of that experience gained working in the medical device industry. At Tyber Medical, he will help to shape the company’s growth strategy with a focus on (according to the press release) mergers and acquisitions, product development, facilities expansion, and expanding manufacturing efforts into new markets.

OTW spoke with Sibilla about his new role. Sibilla told OTW, “Joining the Tyber Medical team is a fantastic opportunity to work for a rapidly-growing, forward-thinking company that has brought a revolutionary private label business model to the orthopedic industry.”

Sibilla continued, “In just months, we can provide our customers with access to portfolio-enhancing, regulatory-cleared orthopedic medical devices.”

Sibilla joins Tyber Medical from Invata Intralogistics, a provider of fulfillment automation solutions, where he served as CFO. Prior to that role, he worked at Globus Medical, Inc., a musculoskeletal solutions company. At Globus Medical, Sibilla took on roles of increasing responsibility including international controller and manager of financial operations.

Tyber stated, “We are very excited to have Damien [Sibilla] join our executive leadership team.”

Tyber continued, “His financial management expertise in the CFO role will allow us to further develop our global strategic plan with our commercial partnerships and continue our rapid growth path.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
