Global executive Andreas Weller has been appointed president and CEO of Tecomet, a medical device manufacturer.

Weller has more than 25 years of experience, including 20 years in the contract manufacturing industry. He joins Tecomet from Aludyne, a “global light-weighting solutions and components supplier to the mobility industry,” where he served as president and CEO for four years.

Before joining Aludyne, Weller was president of the Asia-Pacific region for ZF Group, a German car parts manufacturer. He began his career as a principal with The Boston Consulting Group.

Weller holds a graduate degree in engineering and business administration from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. He also attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he obtained a master’s degree in industrial engineering.

Weller expressed excitement about his new position in a recent LinkedIn post, commenting in part, “I am excited to join the very talented Tecomet team and look forward to collaborating with our valued customers to improve the quality of life of countless people around the world.”

Weller is taking over the position of president and CEO from Bill Dow. Dow served as Tecomet’s CEO from 2008 to 2016 and has served as the interim CEO since June 2022. Dow will continue in his role as chairman of the Tecomet Board of Directors.

Dow commented, “The Search Committee conducted a thorough exploration, reviewing numerous profiles and interviewing many qualified candidates. Andreas is the best of a select group. He has extensive experience successfully running manufacturing companies around the world.”

Dow continued, “We are very pleased to welcome Andreas as the new leader of the Tecomet team.”

Tecomet is headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts, and has more than 16 facilities across the globe. Per the press release, the company is a “leading contract manufacturer of orthopedic implants, instruments and sterilization trays.” Its capabilities include “forging, casting, precision machining, photochemical etching, welding, and finishing.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
