John Bostjancic, the current CFO and COO of SeaSpine Holdings Corporation, has been named the chief financial officer of the upcoming, combined companies of Orthofix Medical Inc. and SeaSpine.

Bostjancic will serve as CFO upon the completion of the pending merger of the newly and prospectively combined companies. The companies announced the merger in October 2022. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2023 subject to shareholder approval and other customary closing conditions. For more information on the merger, see “Orthofix and SeaSpine Decide To Merge.”

Bostjancic has served as SeaSpine CFO since 2015 and COO since 2022. From 2015 through 2022 he served as treasurer and senior vice president. From 2014 through 2015 he served as acting CFO of the SeaSpine business within Integra LifeSciences.

Prior to joining SeaSpine, Bostjancic spent more than 15 years with Integra LifeSciences in roles of increasing responsibility. His last roles with Integra LifeSciences included senior vice president of global supply chain and senior vice president of finance.

SeaSpine President and CEO Keith Valentine commented, “John has been a key leader of SeaSpine dating back to the successful spin-out of the organization in 2015. I am confident his background and experience in the medical device industry coupled with his cultural influence will benefit the newly combined company as we continue to grow.”

Valentine continued, “I believe John is well positioned to help lead us through the successful integration of the two companies, ensuring accountability across all levels of the organization, as we focus on the key initiatives that will drive growth, scalability and shareholder value.”

Orthofix CFO Doug Rice will remain with the company to “provide post-closing assistance with the integration activities during a transition period.” Rice has been with Orthofix since 2014 and played a key role in the company’s growth.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
