Many of us take personalized experiences for granted, because we have become so accustomed to personalization touching every aspect of our lives.

From streaming services that recommend shows based on watch history, to using face and fingerprint ID to unlock our phones, personalization is at our fingertips—literally. We often only pay attention to experiences lacking in personal touch, like your name misspelled on a coffee order or buying a “one-size-fits-all” shirt that just doesn’t fit quite right.

Bringing Personalization to Total Knee Arthroplasty Care

Healthcare should never be viewed as “one-size-fits-all,” and arguably, should be at the forefront of personalized experience.

For example, 99.9% of all patients don’t have straight legs, therefore using a “one-size-fits-all” mechanical alignment approach during knee surgery may result in modifications to knee anatomy that can lead to unsatisfied patients.

DePuy Synthes Knee Solutions has recognized that by providing patients personalized solutions for knee surgery and restoration, we can provide better patient outcomes.

Enhanced Accuracy, Precision and Predictability

Because we understand every person’s anatomy is different, we’ve created a modern, end-to-end, single solution to help enhance surgical accuracy, precision and predictability.

It includes three elements: (i) the ATTUNE™ Knee System, which is the most contemporary implant on the market; (ii) the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, which offers precision, accuracy and reproducibility; and (iii) patient-specific techniques, which help target the restoration of the patient’s knee function and helps preserve the knee’s soft tissue envelope.

Focus on Knee Restoration

When you approach knee replacement with a sharp focus on the implant, technique and technology, it truly becomes knee restoration.

Just as we’ve come to expect personalization in our everyday lives, it’s important for healthcare systems to incorporate personalized experience to help fuel our health and mobility. Through continuous improvement, our work at DePuy Synthes Knee Solutions is helping to reshape the standard of care and make personalized surgery the norm for every surgeon and patient.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
