Patrick Seiler, a well experienced and respected chief financial officer has joined Greenwich, Connecticut-based Spire Orthopedic Partners as its new CFO.

Prior to joining Spire, Seiler was the chief financial officer for RestorixHealth (formerly The Center for Wound Healing), an advanced wound healing provider. During his nearly decade long tenure with RestorixHealth, he played an instrumental role in the company’s acquisitional decisions.

According to the Spire Orthopedics, Seiler “successfully piloted two recapitalizations with large private equity firms in 2015 and 2021, resulting in multiples of 12x-14x EBITDA, and their merger with the largest provider of wound dressings to post-acute care settings, making RestorixHealth the nation’s premier wound management company.”

In the press release, Spire Executive Chairman Bob Cucuel said, “Spire’s physician partners and our growing, multi-state network of practices will benefit from Patrick’s practice management experience and intricate understanding of private equity’s evolving role in the healthcare landscape.”

Cucuel continued, “Patrick’s proven leadership in healthcare, private equity, and M&A transactions, combined with his collaborative ability to establish scalable, data-driven financial functions, will further enable Spire to guide and equip market-leading orthopedic and spine surgeons in growing their practices while maintaining a position of financial strength amidst a dynamic landscape.”

Before RestorixHealth, Seiler was the CFO/COO for Focus Ventures LLC, a private equity firm. In that role he managed the firm’s healthcare assets. Prior to that role, he spent over a decade with TransCare, a multi-state, multi-division ambulance company. His career also includes financial leadership positions with a number of other companies.

In the press release, Seiler expressed pride when discussing his new position stating, “I was drawn to Spire’s commitment to advancing physician-led care by partnering with and empowering the nation’s best orthopedic and spine surgeons.”

Seiler continued, “As healthcare becomes increasingly complex and competitive, especially from a financial perspective, physicians and their teams need access to top-tier management services in order to remain independent and succeed in placing physicians and patients at the center of care. I’m proud to be in a position to assist in both offering and shaping those services as a member of the Spire team.”

Spire, an orthopedic focused management services organization, made its debut last year. For OTW’s initial coverage on Spire, see “Introducing Spire Orthopedic Partners.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
