HOPCo Acquires Future Health Works Patient Engagement Technology

Phoenix, Arizona-based Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo) has acquired musculoskeletal (MSK) specific technology platforms developed by London-based Future Health Works (FHW).

HOPCo is a national leader in healthcare management, partnering with payors, practices, and health systems and, on its website, says that it is the “largest orthopedic value-based care organization in the country.”

OTW had the chance to speak with HOPCo President and Chief Transformation Officer Wael Barsoum, M.D. about how the FHW technologies will benefit HOPCo’s orthopedic partners. Dr. Barsoum told OTW, “These tools can benefit MSK providers and health systems in many ways, depending on the strategy of the group. However, what all groups share is the challenge of extracting meaningful data that helps drive value-based care programs.”

“There is certainly no shortage of data but converting that data into a usable form that influences clinician behavior and improves outcomes has been a significant hurdle for most organizations. The platforms developed by Future Health Works will allow for data to be converted into useable knowledge that physicians can have right at their fingertips.”

Dr. Barsoum added, “Within procedure-based bundle programs, readmissions and complications account for the vast majority of cost. The msk.ai and myrecovery applications are equipped with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, motion capture, real-time patient feedback, remote patient monitoring and predictive analytics to track and report outcomes. The data captured through the platform allows physicians and providers to identify patients at risk of complications or hospital readmissions and intervene before this occurs.”

Dr. Barsoum elaborated, “For physicians and hospitals participating in more comprehensive programs, such as population health risk models or condition-based bundle programs, the patient management structure includes multimodal algorithms. This allows for instructions, recommendations, therapy and tracking questions to be pushed out to the patient via the mobile app. The performance feedback is received by the provider in real-time, making it easier for nurse navigators to approve the protocols.”
