U.S. Orthopaedic Partners, a network for private orthopedic practices in the Southeastern United States, recently announced a partnership with Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

U.S. Orthopaedic Partners is the creator of a platform that delivers highly specialized insight, technologies, resources, training, and education to provide the highest musculoskeletal care.

Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center, one of the leading sports medicine treatment and academic centers in the world, consists of six state-of-the-art facilities in Central Alabama and is staffed by 21 world-renowned orthopedic surgeons.

The company said that it hopes the partnership with U.S. Orthopaedic Partners will provide even more opportunities to enhance patient care and grow the practice.

“We are confident that the breadth and scalability of the U.S. Orthopaedic Partners’ platform will allow us to optimize every facet of our business,” said Lisa Warren, CEO of Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center.

“We are eager to begin integrating the platform into each of our practice locations so we may serve more patients, with the same best-in-class quality, personal attention, and support they have come to expect from our practice over the years.”

This is U.S. Orthopaedic Partners’ sixth partnership since it was founded in late 2020. There are now 22 practice locations across Mississippi and Alabama.

“Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center is a perfect example of the kind of practice for whom we developed our platform. Their focus on quality patient care, superior outcomes and commitment to education sets them apart,” said Graham Young, Vice President of Merger & Acquisitions for U.S. Orthopaedic Partners.

“This partnership allows Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center to maintain clinical autonomy and brand identity, without sacrificing financial strength or stability. We are thrilled for them to be a valued part of our expanding regional network.”

Dr. Lyle Cain, a Managing Partner at Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center, added, “The physicians and surgeons at Andrews will benefit greatly from the support, fellowship alignment, research opportunities and value-based care delivery and quality outcomes that USOP is able to provide. With our mutual focus on clinical research programs to improve musculoskeletal care, we look forward to partnering alongside other like-minded physicians to build something special across the Region.”

The U.S. Orthopaedic Partners’ platform provides a full continuum of musculoskeletal treatment to patients in the Southeastern U.S. It offers a diverse range of orthopedic sub-specialties, ultramodern ambulatory surgery centers, fellowship training programs and comprehensive suite of ancillary services—advanced imaging, rehabilitation, pain management, urgent care, pharmacy, and sports medicine.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
