THINK Surgical, Inc. has appointed David C. Dvorak to the position of Executive Chairman of its Board of Directors. Mr. Dvorak was formerly the president and CEO for ten of his sixteen-year tenure at Warsaw, Indiana based Zimmer Biomet.

“We are delighted that David has agreed to join our Board of Directors as executive chairman,” said Stuart Simpson, president and CEO of THINK Surgical. “His extensive experience in executive leadership roles in the medical technology industry as well as his decades of experience in board and board committee work, make him the ideal person to provide governance and guidance for the management team as we accelerate the company’s growth.”

Fremont, California-based THINK Surgical is a leader in orthopedic med tech device development, specifically in active robotics for orthopedic surgery. The company’s TSolution One system core technology has been used by surgeons for tens of thousands of joint replacement surgeries around the world.

According to THINK surgical, the TSolution One system is the only total joint replacement robot that features a versatile open implant library. The company collaborates with providers worldwide to develop effective, cutting-edge technologies to alleviate the suffering of joint disease worldwide. THINK Surgical’s registered trademarks include TSolution One, TCAT and TPLAN.

Dvorak brings decades of medical device industry as well as orthopedic tech experience to the new role. During his time as CEO at Zimmer Biomet, the company’s sales more than doubled from $3.5 billion to $7.7 billion. In addition, he was part of the $13.4 billion Biomet acquisition.

Dvorak also led the acquisition of MedTech SA, the surgical robotics company that integrated Zimmer Biomet into robot-assisted surgery markets. Dvorak is also managing director at Black Lake Expeditions, LLC and CEO and chairman of the board at Deep Think Health, Inc.

“I am excited to assume the role of executive chairman of the board of THINK,” said Dvorak. “THINK’s industry leading active robot technology provides an unparalleled opportunity to democratize robotic technology in orthopedics. The technology will deliver precision and implant flexibility to healthcare customers, while at the same time enabling future, clinically relevant innovations for industry partners. I’m very much looking forward to working with the talented team at THINK as the company begins to leverage these attractive value propositions to unlock its immense potential for commercial growth.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
