Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush Expands to Joliet

Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR) in Chicago has announced that it will open its 7th Chicago area full-service clinic later this year. MOR physicians, who are the official team doctors for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Fire Soccer Club, Chicago Dogs, and Joffrey Ballet, will now be able to offer orthopedic and spine care at a new 15,000 square feet, state-of-the-art facility at 963 129th Infantry Drive in Joliet. Along with the facility’s physical therapy-only locations, the new facility brings the group’s number of Chicago area locations to 13.

“We are excited to be more accessible to our patients in the southwest suburbs,” explains Dr. Brian Cole, MOR Managing Partner. “The Joliet area is a natural fit for our continued growth in the Chicago suburbs.”

Brian Cole, M.D., told OTW, “We performed a full analysis of the zip codes from where our current patients come from. We already service many individuals from the Joliet area including Will and Kendall counties with more than 1 million residents who might need our services. In addition, the southern suburbs of Chicago have easy access to the Joliet location. We plan to expand our footprint and add convenience for our patients and referring physicians with a full-service orthopedics multi-specialty clinic as an immediate extension of MOR.”

The new Joliet facility will feature 16 patient exam rooms, a cast room, physical therapy, occupational therapy, MRI and X-ray imaging, and durable medical equipment services. Patients will be available to avail themselves of the full range of orthopedic and spine services when the center opens in late fall 2021.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
