Biomedical company Adapttech Ltd. has announced a partnership with Cascade Orthopedic Supply, LP (Cascade) to distribute its INSIGHT system throughout the United States and Canada.

Based in the United Kingdom, Adapttech delivers technologies that “improve the quality of life for people with physical limitations.” According to the press release, its INSIGHT system is “designed to improve the socket fitting process involved with lower-limb prostheses.” The system combines a 3D scanner, sensors, wearable technology, and a mobile app to enable a comfortable fitting prostheses and rehabilitation monitoring.

The INSIGHT system was studied at two independent prosthetic clinics in the United States. The results delivered by the INSIGHT system were supported by outcome tests for health, function, satisfaction, and pain level. These studies allowed Adapttech to expand to the North American market.

OTW spoke with Adapttech CEO and Founder Frederico Carpinteiro about the partnership with Cascade. Carpinteiro told OTW, “Following the positive results from our US clinical trials, we are excited to have joined forces with Cascade to bring the benefits of INSIGHT to the North American market.”

Carpinteiro continued, “Their extensive market experience and sales support expertise makes them an ideal distribution partner for Adapttech.”

Cascade is a North American distributor of orthotics, prosthetics, materials, and equipment. Founded in 1973, Cascade serves the United States from its four distribution centers in California, Texas, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. Its subsidiary OrtoPed distributes in Canada.

Cascade Director of Sales and Marketing John Cronin discussed the INSIGHT system. “We target the latest advancements in technology to provide practitioners the products they need quickly and efficiently. With technology like INSIGHT that aims to reduce the time needed for clinical evaluation and prosthesis fitting, there has never been a better time for this type of product.”

Cronin continued, “Patients spend less time in the clinical environment, and with a better fitting prosthesis, each patient can take control of their own daily activities and overall health. We are looking forward to bringing the INSIGHT System to our customers.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
