There’s a bit more Swiss flair in the city of Franklin, Tennessee, these days, with the opening of the U.S. headquarters for Medacta International. Governor Bill Lee and Medacta International Chief Executive Officer Francesco Siccardi have announced the official opening, which will result in a $2.5 million investment and create more than 50 jobs in Franklin. The new U.S. headquarters at 6640 Carothers Pkwy, Suite 420, Franklin, TN, will house the company’s total joint (hip, knee & shoulder), spine & sports medicine divisions serving North America.

“Medacta USA’s decision to bring its U.S. headquarters to Franklin underscores the vibrant economy of the entire Nashville region. Tennessee’s business-friendly environment gives companies of all types the opportunity to create quality jobs for our residents, especially in the health care sector. I thank Medacta for this investment in Williamson County,” said Governor Bill Lee.

Established in 1999 in Switzerland, Medacta develops products “…to support minimally invasive surgical techniques and possesses a strong commitment to ongoing clinical education programs and products that enhance healthcare system sustainability worldwide.”

“Today we take another step in our company’s growth evolution,” said Francesco Siccardi. “This year Medacta is celebrating its 20-year anniversary and recently became a public company with shares available for purchase on the Swiss Exchange. In 2018, we were among the fastest growing orthopedic companies, and opening our North American headquarters here in Franklin, Tennessee is a testament to the impact we made on the orthopaedic market globally. We are grateful for the community’s warm welcome and look forward to becoming an active and visible member of it.”

Francesco Siccardi told OTW, “When we decided to leave Illinois, we looked at several cities before choosing Franklin, ultimately attracted by the area’s low taxes and cost of living, high performing schools, central location and warm weather. The proximity to the rich health care service firms in Nashville was also a factor, but what we were really searching for was a permanent home. We’ve now found that!”

“What is important to us is to have a headquarters where we know we can stay for years to come. My impression is that this is a place we can stay for many years. I will do my best to outgrow this building as quickly as possible and create many new jobs in this wonderful area.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
