The Rothman Institute has joined forces with Aria Orthopedics in Northeast Philadelphia and added six new physicians. The new Rothman Institute physicians are:

Daniel Bronsnick, M.D., Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon
Thomas Corcoran, M.D., Non-operative Sports Medicine
Mark Desmond, M.D., Generalist Orthopedics
Matthew McLean, M.D., Sports Medicine Surgeon
Christopher Selgrath, D.O., Joint Replacement Surgeon
Paul Steinfield, M.D., General Orthopedics

“We’re pleased to welcome these exceptional physicians to Rothman Institute,” said Alexander R. Vaccaro, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., president of Rothman Institute, Richard H. Rothman Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics, and professor of Neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University and Hospitals. “They have an outstanding reputation in the Northeast Philadelphia communities they serve. We anticipate a smooth transition for their patients and are looking forward to a successful integration into the practice.”

“We are excited by the opportunity to join such a prestigious group as Rothman Institute,” said Paul Steinfeld, M.D. “Joining the group will allow us additional resources to pursue the latest and greatest orthopaedic advancements for our patients, but also allow us to stay and care for the communities we have served for many years. We look forward to being part of the Rothman Family.”

Dr. Steinfield, who leads the new group, told OTW, “We are very pleased to be part of this outstanding organization. The resources and talent available to us now will enhance our ability to provide the absolute finest care to our patients. This along with the merger of Aria and Jefferson Health will take us to the next level of clinical excellence.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
