Pascale Davis: New Global Head of Marketing at Safe Orthopaedics

According to Safe Orthopaedics’ April 24, 2017 news release, “Before joining Safe Orthopaedics, Pascale was Marketing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) at Zimmer Biomet Spine, since 2012 where initially her role was EMEA Scientific Affairs Director. Previously, she held various positions of responsibility at Synthes Spine and SpineArt in Switzerland and then in the United States. Concurrently, Pascale was also Director of Education and Marketing for the International Society for Advancement of Spinal Surgery (ISASS) from 2001 until 2006.”
“It gives us great pleasure to welcome Pascale to Safe Orthopaedics. Her arrival illustrates the Company’s ability to attract well-known international talents and the growing interest in its technology, as was recently demonstrated by AP-HP’s decision to list our products,” commented Pierre Dumouchel, company co-founder and CEO. “Pascale’s arrival will provide a significant boost to our marketing capabilities and training programs that we provide to surgeons to foster the take-up of our products and to give them more information about the benefits of Safe Orthopaedics’ sterile single-use products for both minimally-invasive and trauma surgery.”
Pascale Davis added: “I’m delighted to be joining Safe Orthopaedics. Their innovative technology is highly acclaimed and respected and gaining more and more traction in France and internationally. I will be applying my market knowledge together with the experience I gained in the scientific community to accelerate adoption of our products by surgeons and centers of excellence for spinal surgery—in France, Germany and also in other European and emerging markets.”
Davis commented to OTW, “We intend to replicate in Germany the success we have had in France and I am looking forward to seeing a wider and rapid adoption of Safe Orthopedics on the spine market. The use of safe, differentiated, innovative technologies through the single use paradigm will enhance the company’s position as a leader, particularly in the trauma sector.”
“My first steps are to consolidate the foundations for growth focusing initially on the German market, while pursuing increased penetration in our established markets and beyond. These goals will be achieved through a solid education program together with clinical excellence and supported by economical evidence.”

Discussion
This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?
Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.
We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
