50th EOS Installation Milestone, Launches in China

EOS imaging has announced the 50th installation of an EOS system in France at the Imanord medical imaging center in the Hôpital Privé Villeneuve d’Ascq, a member of the Ramsay Générale de Santé network, which is the largest private hospital group in France.

In EOS’ May 2, 2017 news release, it states, “This new installation is the fifth in the Hauts-de-France region, making it the fourth in numbers of EOS platforms following the Ile-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône Alpes and Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur regions. 27% of French cities with more than 50,000 people are now equipped with at least one EOS system, with strong opportunities to further expand patient access in certain regions, including the suburban Paris area.”

“The EOS system will complement Imanord’s medical imaging platform which has numerous other advanced modalities, including MRI [magnetic resonance imaging] and PET [positron emission tomography] scan that enable the hospital to provide the best care for their patients. The EOS system will help develop the orthopedic care and spine programs at the hospital and will provide patients with access to 3D full body, low-dose imaging in a functional position.”

Marie Meynadier, Ph.D., CEO of EOS imaging, told OTW, “EOS has become a must have for imaging centers that serve orthopedic and spine clinics across France, as a response to a demand from the clinic orthopedist surgeons. Besides, with a growing number of patients now aware of the availability of EOS, there is also a patient demand from patients to receive low dose exams.”

“We still have large areas where patients have a difficult access to EOS, amongst which the Greater Paris area and others. Only a fraction of the global demand in France for skeletal imaging is covered today by EOS, and we intend to keep growing our installed base to serve it better.”

The company also recently announced the first two installations of EOS systems in China at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital and Shanghai’s Ruijin Hospital.

Asked how these hospitals were chosen, Dr. Meynadier commented to OTW, “The two hospitals in Shanghai and Nanjing are leading sites in, respectively, orthopedic and complex spine treatment. They were chosen for their capacity to develop the use of our technology in China through their medical leadership.”

As for expansion in China, she noted, “We will start addressing the 50 top Chinese hospitals for orthopedics to introduce the technology across the country in major institutions that perform thousands of orthopedic and spine surgeries annually, prior to a more global expansion.”
