University Orthopedics (UOI) in Providence, Rhode Island, welcomes Gwynne Bragdon, M.D. to the team. Joining the Orthopedic Hand, Upper Extremity and Microvascular Surgery Division of the Department of Orthopedics at Newport Hospital, Dr. Bragdon specializes in upper extremity injuries including hand, forearm and elbow fractures as well as nerve compression issues, peripheral nerve injuries, arthritis and tendonitis.

Dr. Bragdon completed her orthopedic training at the University of Rochester, followed by a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at Brown University. She’s practiced orthopedic and hand surgery in Pittsburgh at Level 1 trauma centers and community hospitals since 2008 where she earned rave reviews from her patients. Lisa Marie Scholz, a patient of Dr. Bragdon’s for six years, says, “Dr. Bragdon is the best hand doctor in the city of Pittsburgh.”
She’ll be missed in Pittsburgh, but is excited about her new role at UOI. As a board-certified orthopedics and hand surgeon, a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, she’s happy to come on board at UOI and the feeling is mutual.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?
Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.
We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
