California-based DJO Global, Inc. is announcing that MotionMD, its software as a service (SaaS) solution, has been integrated with more than 6,000 doctors. According to the February 7, 2017 news release, MotionMD helps “doctors and their staff to spend more time with patients and enabling the clinics to streamline claims management and inventory dispensing. The paperless software solution can help improve patient satisfaction, increase billing compliance and streamline workflow by providing seamless interoperability with clinic records.”

Goldsboro Orthopedics in North Carolina said, “MotionMD and DJO Global provided us with the tools to become a technology driven office. They helped us embrace a new and modern era where we are now in the driver’s seat, benefiting daily from this new technology.”

Steve Ingel, president Global Bracing and Vascular for DJO Global, told OTW, “As the leading orthopedic device manufacture with more than one billion a year in sales, DJO saw a tremendous need in the market for a software solution that would enhance the way clinics operate and improve the overall patient experience. With MotionMD our reps can sell best-in-class products but also offer a software platform that improves the entire process—from compliance to inventory management to providing a paperless solution. MotionMD enables transparency into the complex world of transacting DME by removing the guesswork out of processing claims effectively.”

“Our goal is to triple the number of doctors and locations integrating MotionMD over the next 12 months. We plan to educate the clinic and patient community so that they can leverage the tools available through MotionMD that help free up time and enable them to get back to the business of patient care.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
