California Pacific Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (CPOSM) recently joined forces with San Francisco (SF) Shoulder, Elbow & Hand Clinic to form California Pacific Orthopaedics, the largest orthopedic private practice in San Francisco.

“This merger will enable us to provide the highest quality of care throughout all of the orthopaedic sub-specialties by locally and nationally recognized orthopaedic surgeons.” Jon Dickinson, M.D., a sports medicine specialist and senior member of the group, reported in a press release.

“Now as a combined practice we can collaborate more closely to provide patients with excellent and individualized musculoskeletal care, from non-operative sports medicine and interventional spine to the most complex of orthopaedic surgeries,” Peter Callander, M.D., a total hip and total knee replacement specialist and chairman of the board of the newly merged California Pacific Orthopaedics, said in the release.

The expanded practice will offer comprehensive coverage of foot and ankle, hand and wrist, hip and knee, shoulder and elbow surgery, total joint replacement sports medicine and spine care.

According to the release, California Pacific Orthopaedics will maintain clinic locations at:

  • 2351 Clay St., Suite 510, San Francisco
  • 3838 California Street, Suite 715, San Francisco
  • 2100 Webster Street, Suite 109, San Francisco
  • 1099 D Street, Suite 105, San Rafael

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
