Mike Miller, CEO and board member, has retired as CEO at Orchid Orthopedics Solutions and will now serve the company as vice chairman of the board of directors. Jerry Jurkiewicz, previously President and COO, is now CEO.

According to the January 6, 2017 news release, Jurkiewicz joined Orchid in 2016 as president and COO. Prior to that, he was president of Optics and Photonics at IDEX Corporation. He has also had roles such as Sales and Marketing and Operations at companies like AlliedSignal Automotive and PerkinElmer Optoelectronics.

Commenting on the company’s organizational changes, Jurkiewicz noted, “Orchid has also reorganized to support and accelerate progress on its most important strategic initiatives. Mark Burba has been promoted to the role of COO. In his new role, he will have global responsibility for driving Operational Excellence by implementing world-class processes with a focus on quality and delivery improvements. Matt Burba has been promoted to the newly created role of Chief Commercial Officer. In his global role, he will be leading all growth functions with a focus on driving unparalleled customer service and seamless product launch.”

Asked how he hopes to guide the company’s work from the board, Miller told OTW, “I will be working closely with other board members and Jerry Jurkiewicz, in an effort to work with our customers to demonstrate to them the benefits of allowing Orchid to do their manufacturing for them. I will also work on special projects with Jerry to bring world class, automated, and specialized, manufacturing solutions and capabilities to all of Orchids operations. It is still Orchid’s goal to be the best, most cost effective, and regulatory compliant, company in the contract manufacturing world, with full focus on satisfying our customers.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
