Get details on the juiciest orthopedic surgery controversies at the annual Orthopedic Surgery Controversies 2017 conference. It’s the conference “for surgeons, by surgeons.” Don’t miss a weekend that promises to “challenge your thinking and make you reconsider your ideas, learn new ideas, and try to put some perspective on unresolved issues in shoulder surgery.”

Attendees will enjoy a two-day conference January 27-28 at the beautiful Dana Point, California Laguna Cliffs Marriot Hotel & Spa. Perched on top of impressive cliffs, the hotel is a tranquil retreat that marries luxury with convenience. Approved for 16 AMA PRA Category 1 continuing medical education (CME) credits, the annual conference is sure to be informative, entertaining, and is close to prime leisure activities in this upscale southern California beach town.

Hosted by the Laguna Beach Memorial Medical Center and the Sports Clinical Orthopaedic Medical Associates, and managed by Chairman Dr. Wesley M. Nottage, the weekend features two “Shoulder Arthroplasty Days” in a case-based format. On Saturday, sessions focus on The Young Osteoarthritic Shoulder, Massive Rotator Cuff Tear, Four Part Fracture Management, and P. acnes in Shoulder Surgery. Sunday is dedicated to Understanding the Glenoid Track, Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tear, The Overhead Athlete: SLAP Management, and Acromioclavicular Joints.

Special topics include Technique Videos and B2 Glenoid Bone Loss. Key faculty leading workshops include Drs. John Costouros, John Itamura, Jaideep Iyengar, Thay Lee, Tom Norris, Stephen Snyder, Wesley Phipatanakul, Patrick St. Pierre, Harris Stutman, James Tibone, and Eugene Wolf. Controversial questions like, “GIRD: Is it pathologic?” and “Remplissage: Does it work?” will be tackled in this “scandalous” weekend fitting for a Los Angeles-based seminar.

Register online now and start packing for two days of sun, surf, sand, and orthopedics in beautiful southern California. As a bonus, it’s also peak whale watching season in Dana Point—the most famous and popular protected migratory point for gray and blue whales. Book a whale watching tour and make the most of the Orthopedic Surgery Controversies Conference.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
