Get ready to push the envelope at this orthopedic trauma and fracture care conference in gorgeous Coronado, California. The long weekend of January 19–22, features a course crafted just for orthopedic surgeons.

Offered by the Foundation for Orthopaedic Research and Education (FORE) and hosted by Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa, current core trauma and fracture care principles are the foundation for this course. Here, orthopedic surgeons are encouraged to “challenge dogma” while discovering new technology and techniques to advance their practice.

Enjoy immersive workshops, interactive talks led by leaders in the field, and watch experts debate and showcase experiences. Hands-on immersive workshops ensure attendees complete the conference able to pinpoint emerging trauma/fracture care techniques.

Led by course director Jeffrey M. Smith, M.D., “Orthopaedic Trauma & Fracture Care: Pushing the Envelope” qualifies for up to 21 AMA PRA Category 1 credits of continuing medical education (CME). Featured faculty include Drs. Geoffrey Marecek, Charles Moon, Alexandra Page, Taylor Riall, Anthony Rhorer, and Kim Ruby.

Attendees are encouraged to develop new strategies while maintaining current skills, compare surgical treatments for fractures, and identify the pros and cons of operative dogma in an evidence-based practice.

Dr. Smith, consultant and orthopedic traumatologist, has designed three comprehensive days of sessions, workshops, and events. Thursday highlights include “Performance Psychology: The Science of Mental Toughness, ” “My Worst Cases of My Career and Why, ” “Responding vs. Reacting to Your Environment, ” and a mid-day kayaking break option. Yoga, dodgeball matches, and Tai Chi are peppered amongst breakout sessions and lectures to ensure plenty of fun and networking at this luxury-infused event. See the full schedule.

Often called Coronado Island, this slice of paradise near San Diego is a resort city and “tied island.” Charming and with a rich Spanish history, the downtown area is brimming with galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. Coronado parks offer tennis, skate parks, boathouses with rentals, and endless aquatics options.

Register to push the envelope—and have plenty of fun in the process. Groups of three or more get a 10% discount.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
