Andy Jackson: New President of MuscleSound
Andy Jackson

Having helped to grow MuscleSound thus far, now Andy Jackson will move the company forward as president and chief executive officer. According to the July 28, 2016 news release, MuscleSound is “a Denver-based technology company that helps users optimize performance levels and reduce injury risk through MuscleHealth measurement.”

Jackson succeeds Stephen Kurtz, who will be moving into the role of chairman.

“Jackson brings more than 20 years of relevant experience to his new role, having worked extensively in the wearable technology, sports and fitness industries. He joined MuscleSound in 2015 as the director of business development. Prior to MuscleSound, Jackson served as the CEO of CloudTag, distributor of wearable fitness trackers, and lead new product development, sales and marketing for the FitPro group, the largest global professional association of fitness leaders.”

“Andy is an effective and strategic leader who has a proven track record of delivering results and a deep understanding of technology, fitness and sports industries, ” said Stephen Kurtz, chairman of MuscleSound, in the news release. “He has been an integral part of the company’s growth to-date, and this position is the natural next step for him. I am confident that Andy’s results-oriented approach and ability to think strategically will play a pivotal role in taking MuscleSound to the next level.”

“I am honored to lead MuscleSound, ” said Jackson. “I look forward to collaborating with the MuscleSound team and our partners, as we work together to grow the company’s sports and fitness business. Whether professional athlete, weekend warrior or ICU patient, I am excited that MuscleSound will grow into an essential tool for all.”

Jackson, who will be based out of the company’s Denver headquarters, told OTW, “My first steps are to hire talented people, grow the team, and to enhance our customer experience. We plan to add new metrics for our customers to get a better picture of their clients/athletes’ MuscleHealth. MuscleHealth is the next frontier in understanding effective recovery and readiness to perform, whether a professional athlete or everyday athlete.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
