Justin Irizarry, co-founder and CFO of OrthoNOW, has been named as an honoree on the South Florida Business Journal’s 2016 40 Under 40 list.

As indicated in the June 24, 2016 news release, “Irizarry, a graduate of Cornell University and a Wharton School Fellow, was selected for his contributions to the South Florida community as the CFO and Co-Founder of OrthoNOW, the nation’s only network of orthopedic urgent care centers, and for his work in developing and activating a business model that changes how South Floridians access expert orthopedic care on-demand and at a cost-effective rate.

Alejandro Badia, M.D., chief executive officer and co-founder of OrthoNOW, said “Justin embodies the shift in healthcare that sees clinicians partnering with business and thought leaders to improve patient care and improve costs-efficiency. We are very proud of Justin and believe this nomination is a wonderful acknowledgement of his many contributions to the greater South Florida business community”.

Irizarry told OTW, “The most important thing to me about the South Florida Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 award is the recognition of the hard work that has gone into making a visionary and disruptive business model, like OrthoNOW, a reality.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
