Rothman Institute is announcing the opening of Rothman Institute Glen Mills, an office that will provide a full range of orthopedic services, including imaging, orthotics, physical therapy and hand therapy.

“Our team is very excited about opening this new office, ” said Mike West, CEO of Rothman Institute, in the June 21, 2016 news release. “The Glen Mills location expands our footprint in Delaware County, but is a little bit more south which should be attractive to patients traveling from Delaware. It is easy to get to and has plenty amenities surrounding it. We are looking forward to a successful launch.”

As indicated in the news release, “Rothman Institute Glen Mills features 14, 000 square feet, 22 exam rooms, on-site x-ray rooms, physical therapy, hand therapy and orthotics. The new Rothman Institute in Glen Mills office will see patients in several orthopaedic areas, including hip and knee, sports medicine, shoulder and elbow, hand and wrist, and physical medicine and rehabilitation.”

Physicians seeing patients at this office include:

  • Joint Replacement Physicians (Hip and Knee) – Dr. Eric Smith;
  • Sports Medicine Physician – Dr. Steven Cohen;
  • Shoulder and Elbow Physician – Dr. Charlie Getz;
  • Hand and Wrist Physician – Dr. Pedro Beredjiklian;
  • Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician – Dr. Reema Dua.

Mike West told OTW, “We chose Glen Mills to extend out to the consumer and primary care providers in Western Delaware County, Chester County and Delaware. The location allows access from 202, Rt 1 and 322, which is perfect for our patients. Ultimately we will offer all orthopaedic specialties at this location including both surgical and non-op physicians. We are looking forward to a successful launch.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
