Mark Kemp: New President, CEO of Tecomet
Mark Kemp

Mark Kemp, former president of President Flextronics Medical, is now President and Chief Executive Officer of Tecomet, Inc., a manufacturer of precision engineered components.

According to the June 8, 2016 news release, “Previously Mr. Kemp spent 16 years with Flextronics in progressively responsible roles where he most recently served as President Flextronics Medical. Mr. Kemp has over 20 years of experience with M&A and integration, created shareholder value through strategic selection of well-executed asset deals, led a top-performing management team, and grew the medical division from $200M to $1.8B creating the #1 medical outsourcing partner in the world; this included securing strategic partnerships with 19 of the top 25 medical OEMs.”

“Mark has provided a new outlook and a refreshing prospective by providing guidance and overall leadership for our company since joining Tecomet in October 2015. The Board is very pleased to have Mark with Tecomet and now stepping up to the CEO role, ” stated Bill Dow, Chairman of the Board.

Kemp told OTW, “I’m excited and honored to be appointed CEO of such a talented group of people. I’m very fortunate to follow in Bill Dow’s footsteps. I plan on stealing a few pages from his playbook as we plan the next phase of growth for Tecomet. Since joining in October of 2015, I’ve been focused on reshaping the culture and developing a growth strategy to take us to the next level. To this end, we are increasing our focus on creating value for our customers through innovative solutions, diversifying our portfolio and expanding our global capabilities. Creating new value means more than developing new technologies, products, and services using traditional product development processes. Strategic innovation covers all areas of the business—customer experiences, distribution channels, disruptive technologies, partner networks, and co-creating innovation. Innovation at this level can help you create barriers to competition—keeping you ahead in a fast-changing world.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
