OrthoNOW, the nation’s only network of specialized orthopedic urgent care centers, celebrated the grand opening of its fourth greater Miami franchise, OrthoNOW Coral Way. The Coral Way Center becomes one of 10 the group plans to operate in Florida and Georgia by the end of 2016.
OrthoNOW Coral Way Opens Its Doors

According to the May 19, 2016, news release, the evening ribbon-cutting event was led by OrthoNOW Coral Way owners Mr. Francisco Herrera and Mr. George Samarjian, as well as Dr. Alejandro Badia, CEO & Chief Medical Officer of OrthoNOW, and Dr. Frank McCormick, who serves as OrthoNOW Coral Way’s Medical Director.
Dr. McCormick, who specializes in orthopedic sports medicine, cartilage/meniscal/stem cell transplantation, and arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder, hip, and knee, said, “It gives us great pride to be part of this vibrant neighborhood and we appreciate those who came out to celebrate our beginning. We want our neighbors to know that our medical team is ready to assess and treat injuries on a walk-in basis. We are looking forward to caring for the people who live and work in the Coral Way corridor for decades to come.”
Dr. McCormick told OTW, “My goal is to educate the local community and change the way they perceive healthcare. It is important that our neighbors in Coral Way, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and Brickell understand that they do not need to go to an ER or general urgent care when they suffer an orthopedic or sports injury. OrthoNOW Coral Way is a cost-effective option for specialized care that welcomes everyone on a walk-in basis.”

Discussion
This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?
Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.
We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
