According to the April 13, 2016 news release, topics to be covered include injury prevention, treatment, nutrition, and rehabilitation. The event is being presented by the University of Colorado (UC) School of Medicine, the CU Department of Orthopedics, the CU Division of Sports Medicine and the CU Office of Continuing Medical Education in collaboration with the CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center.
Omer Mei-Dan, M.D., an associate professor of orthopedics in the UC School of Medicine, is a veteran BASE jumper. He told OTW, “There is nothing like this in the world…having so many experienced health care providers, most of which are both treating extreme sports athletes and are athletes who are involved in this field first hand. Everyone is brain storming ideas together and sharing experiences about how to make these sports safer and how to treat these athletes better.”
“The debates and discussion at the end of each session will spark lively discussion and unique ideas, not only from the speakers but also from the audience, all of whom care for the adventure athletes and have a personal interest in the field.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?
Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.
We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
