Robert LaPrade, M.D. Ph.D., a knee surgeon at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, has updated his website http://drrobertlaprademd.com/, so that patients and medical professionals can better understand the anatomy of the knee, what causes knee pain, and treatment options.

Some of the conditions addressed on the site include:

  • Knee Arthritis
  • Complex Knee Injuries
  • Posterolateral Knee Injuries
  • Meniscal Injuries
  • Knee Instability
  • Ligament Injuries

Dr. LaPrade has included a new section on his website giving professionals access to:

  • Sports Medicine Research
  • Clinical Exam Techniques
  • How to Read Knee MRIs
  • Professional Trainings

According to the February 16, 2016 news release, “Dr. LaPrade is the Chief Medical Officer at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute and is among the most widely published researchers in sports medicine. He has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and 75 book chapters, and has given over 750 professional presentations, symposia, and instructional course lectures.”

“Dr. LaPrade and his team are dedicated to keeping people of all ages active by providing the most progressive treatment for sports injuries and orthopedic disorders. For patients seeking a diagnosis or second opinion, Dr. LaPrade offers film reviews and consultations.”

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
