Make room for a new spine organization…the Society for Advanced Spinal Intervention (SASI) is here. SASI is being spearheaded by Solomon Kamson, M.D., Ph.D., an interventional pain physician. The organization’s goal is to provide training and education to physicians in the field of spine care including, interventional pain physicians, interventional radiologists, neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons.
New Organization: Society for Advanced Spinal Intervention

The Society of Advanced Spinal Intervention will initially establish a U.S.-based training and credentialing program that will provide the necessary knowledge and expertise for doctors from around the world; within a year the group plans to take the same training module globally. SASI plans to educate and assist the global healthcare community in establishing training programs that will provide doctors locally with the necessary skill and expertise required to economically and effectively take care of patients.
Dr. Kamson told OTW,
SASI is the voice of reason that provides the first multi-disciplinary platform which standardizes training requirements for minimally onvasive spine surgery globally. SASI aims to increase awareness in the orthopedic community of the evolving multidisciplinary techniques of minimally invasive surgery. SASI is targeting the global market.

Discussion
This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?
Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.
We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
