Zimmerman New CEO of Valtronic Group
Martin Zimmerman

The Board of Directors of Valtronic Technologies SA of Les Charbonnieres, Switzerland, has brought about a change in the company’s management. It appointed Martin Zimmermann, Ph.D., to serve as CEO of the Valtronic Group as well as President of Valtronic Technologies (Suisse) SA. The outgoing CEO, Peter Ruppersberg, Ph.D., who spent three years with the firm and successfully restructured it, will remain with the group and serve as senior advisor on strategic projects.

Zimmermann joined Valtronic in July 2011 as the Director of Precision Design and Engineering. He was in charge of the new precision mechanical parts production and managed the recent move of this activity to a custom designed facility in Les Charbonnières. He also served as the chairman of the Group Finance Sub-Committee.

Prior to joining Valtronic, Zimmermann was CEO of Venner Medical (Suisse) SA and held various positions at medical device companies in Switzerland and Germany, mainly in the field of infusion pumps. He has also held international management positions in the specialty materials segment with Schott. He holds a Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering and a Ph.D. in material science.

Valtronic is a niche “mechatronics” manufacturing solutions company that produces integrated electronic and mechanical products. The firm’s customers are leading global suppliers of medical implants, automated treatment devices, diagnostic imaging equipment and sensitive aerospace and industrial assemblies.

This is a fascinating development. In my practice we've seen similar outcomes with the revised protocol. The key differentiator seems to be patient selection criteria. Has anyone else noticed the correlation with BMI thresholds?

Great point. I'd push back slightly on the conclusion, the sample size in the cited study is too small to draw population-level inferences. That said, the directional signal is compelling and worth a larger RCT.

We implemented a similar approach last year. Early results are promising but we're still gathering 12-month follow-up data. Happy to share our protocol if anyone is interested.
